Gerakan’s Tan ‘joins’ Pakatan (Another gerakan Politic FROG)

Gerakan’s Tan ‘joins’ Pakatan
By DHARMENDER SINGH and CHRISTINA TAN, (another politic frog again ?)

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong became the second Gerakan leader to take up a post with an Opposition-led state government. (why must he joint the PR government to serve selangor people ? I think there is many way to do other than helping our opposition )

The Federal Territory Gerakan chief and former Deputy Land and Cooperative Development Minister was named as co-chairman of Selangor's special task force on land issues.
"Gerakan feels I have no value in terms of serving the party and the people"- DATUK DR TAN KEE KWONG (Are you sure ? Gerakan is big, you have jump to the conclusion that Gerakan do not want your services, than in much earlier you should not joint Gerakan, or should resign before 2004 GE and not in this moment, when the party facing problem)

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the other co-chairman was former Land and Cooperative Development Ministry secretary-general Prof Datuk Dr Nik Mohd Zain Nik Yusof.

The appointment of Dr Tan means he will now be working for the Pakatan Rakyat state government. ( Than he should be call a running DOG for Gerakan)

Last month, Gerakan deputy secretary-general Lee Kah Choon accepted the Penang government's offer to take up the posts of InvestPenang executive chairman and Penang Development Corporation director. Lee later quit Gerakan. ( I think Dr tan should quit as well, he should quit much earlier if he is a man and have guts, not after 2008 GE, what the hell when the party have problem, all this frog leader jumping around)

Khalid said Dr Tan and Prof Dr Nik Mohd Zain would head a six-member task force that would study the management of land in Selangor and related policies, issues and problems before submitting suggestions for improvement. (I think khalid is trying to weaken our Gerakan by pulling more of Gerakan leader, i just wondering, why this experience frog leader can without the consciousness to joint and helping enemy during our party have problem, where is you heart ? )

“We decided to appoint the two men for their vast experience in land management. Dr Tan served as the deputy minister from 1999 to 2004 while Prof Dr Nik Mohd Zain was secretary-general from 1996 to 2002,” he told a press conference after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting here yesterday. (Bullshit, your purposes just to further weaken our strength)

Dr Tan said he would not resign from his Gerakan post after taking up the special task force co-chairman position. (than Gerakan should fire you )

He said news of his appointment was announced at 6pm yesterday, adding that no party official had called him to seek clarification over his decision to work with the Pakatan Rakyat state government. (than you wait lah................)

Dr Tan said Khalid, whom he has known for more than 20 years, contacted him two weeks ago with the offer to head the committee in an area which was vital but also most lacking in terms of efficiency. (than you should joint PKR 10 years ago not now)

“I said yes to the offer because I joined politics to serve the people and country. The post provides me the chance to continue this work while Gerakan feels I have no value in terms of serving the party and the people,” the 61-year-old politician said when contacted last night. (rubbish, when we joint politic to serve people may not necessary holding any post to help people OK)

He said he also had a lot of respect for the first-time mentri besar as he had highlighted and worked to solve many of the issues that many before him had failed to address.

The task force would start work in two weeks, Dr Tan said, as the other members had yet to be picked.

It will have three months to submit recommendations to the state government. (you better do not pull our gerakan member again)

Tsu Koon to play mediator role

Tsu Koon to play mediator role

GEORGE TOWN: Small and medium industries (SMIs) in Penang that are facing problems can look up to former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

State Gerakan SMI bureau head Michael Heah said they could forward their grouses to the Federal Government through Dr Koh.

“Dr Koh will use his connections to channel their grievances to International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,” he said at a press conference at the state Gerakan headquarters here yesterday.

Heah said the 3,000-odd SMIs in the state were in the dark over what was taking place in the state under the new state government.

He urged the state to work closely with the Federal Government to attract foreign investments and formulate strategies to collectively tackle difficulties and overcome challenges.

He said many foreign investors were adopting a “wait and see” attitude to ascertain whether the political scenario in the state was stable.

“We are facing intense competition from Asian countries. The increase in the price of raw materials and rising manpower costs has affected many SMIs in Penang.

“Some have closed down and relocated to other countries,” he said.

He said the Federal Government should continue assisting SMIs in Penang although the state was governed by Pakatan Rakyat.

The press conference was called to announce the CEO Tips Coffee Talk that will be held at Paradise Cafe near Queensbay Mall on June 5 at 7pm.

Dr Koh will be speaking at the talk themed “Challenges in the Time of Change”.

Entry to the talk sponsored by HSBC is free. Seats are limited to 100 participants. For registration, call Ng or Matthew at 046462020 before June 1.

Gerakan retools itself to get back in mainstream politics

Gerakan retools itself to get back in mainstream politics
By ROYCE CHEAH

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan will be positioning itself as the party of choice for all Malaysians under a rebranding effort that it hopes would bring the party back to mainstream politics.

At the party's 40th anniversary on Sunday, Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said the party's mission was to build a united and democratic nation.

"In order to achieve this, we must consolidate, evaluate, motivate and rejuvenate the party."

Dr Koh said three thrusts would be undertaken, one of which was to voice Gerakan's ideology and policy position, and to advocate a Malaysian solution for major issues.

"The other two is to rebuild, rebrand and re-empower the party at all levels to effectively serve and represent all Malaysians and by doing so, to win the people's hearts and minds while regaining their mandate."

Dr Koh said the party was at its most challenging crossroads following the dismal results of the March 8 general election.

"Most of us are dejected or demoralised but we must keep telling ourselves that we are down but definitely not out," he said.

Dr Koh said after meeting with grassroots members over the past two months, the picture was clear that the members wanted Gerakan to continue.

"A few may have gone astray. We can understand that. But we will keep fighting because we believe we are still relevant to the people."

He added that Gerakan had to quickly understand the new political environment and that politics now had moved from being racial-based to being issues-based.

"That is exactly what we are fighting for, but somehow we ended up on the other side.

"In this case, what is good for the country is negative for the party but it confirms that this is the way forward and we definitely have a role to play."

He added that Gerakan would execute its plan via eight strategies consisting of broad plans to expand and consolidate membership while rebuilding the party in Penang.

"One of the ideas is to provide a more flexible structure by opening cyber branches so that Malaysians overseas can also participate in the party," he said.

From Dr M resignation to a nation Economy and politic problem......I worry Malaysia future

Dr M resignation will further weaken the Malaysia political stability, from the economic point of view, as a normal citizen we are worry about the current global problem like commodity price is raising , obviously the Oil is the main issue. USA have a sign of economic downturn already, this will be impact to Malaysia sooner or later. The former Deputy PM of Singapore Dr Tan had warned Singaporean to be get ready for the next economic turmoil.

Lets look into above matter added the instability of Malaysia political issue, would Malaysia will hit by both issue ? This is the worry, if both Economical and political issue hit our beloved Malaysia, are we strong enough like 1997 to solve the above both problem.

Today i just got some Singapore dollar from Singapore to exchange to Malaysia Ringgit, surprisingly SGD1 is equal to RM2.363. This should be the highest in this year.are this the sign of economy turmoil is coming?................

Further to this , the global natural disaster in Myanmar and china also further worsen the world economy. as a IT and Businessman , i have a feeling that the economy nightmare is coming............... be ready.........

Dr M, Sanusi quit Umno is a personal vendetta with Abdullah?(do this help UMNO and BN?)

Dr M, Sanusi quit Umno (is a personal vendetta with Abdullah)

ALOR STAR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and veteran party man Tan Sri Sanusi Junid announced Monday that they are quitting Umno. (I think Dr M , Old already, he can't wait to see the chnage, the change need time DR M, even you do not have time , you should not give a earth quake to UMNO and BN)

Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced this on Monday at 12.35pm, citing a lack of confidence in the current leadership. (Than in the first place why Dr M choose Badawi? a good and senior leader is telling us such a naive comments, i think they may have personal problem, instead of choosing wrong leader as Badawi)

"I am quitting Umno today," he told about 1,000 people, mostly Kedah Umno members, at a talk here on Monday. (than we should celebrating the senior leader retirement)

"I will write a letter to Umno headquarters to inform that I have quit the party," he said. (remember promissory estoppal OK)

He has been critical of his appointed successor Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, blaming the current Umno president for the party's disappointing performance in the 12th general election. (than how, as Pak lah to retire? or Dr M want to make the whole Malaysia to chaos ?)

The ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, of which Umno is the largest component party, won the March 8 election with a simple majority, and saw four more states join Kelantan under Opposition rule.

Dr Mahathir urged other party members to quit too, as a way of pressuring Abdullah into vacating his post. (Than the whole Malaysia go to hell, we need a peacefull Malaysia , not a chaos Malaysia OK)

However, he advised those who do quit not to join any opposition party, adding they can all rejoin the party once there is a change in leadership.(are Dr M promoting PKR ? or PAS ? why not promoting Gerakan ?Hahah)

Abdullah has so far refused all calls for him to step down, and said he would defend his presidency in the party polls in December.

Sanusi, who is a former Kedah Mentri Besar, also quit the party on Monday.

PM Abdullah: Shocked
Meanwhile, Abdullah said he was shocked by the decision and, despite their differences, had not expected him to leave.

However, the beleaguered premier said he would stay on and fight for the party.

“Perhaps some other members might leave too, but this won’t entirely affect the party. It all depends on whether the rest want to stay on and continue to fight for the party too,” he said.

In KLANG: Former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said Dr Mahathir’s decision will affect public perception of Umno’s strength and possibly discourage youngsters from joining the party.

Many of those aged below 40 years grew up during Dr Mahathir’s premiership and hold him in high regard. ( I think so, but am not)

“Dr Mahathir’s resignation will have a huge impact on the trust that this group of people, including the Malays, have in Umno and its capability to lead the country,” he said.

He said youngsters wanting to join the party now might also shy away as questions would be raised on Umno’s ability to be effective as a party.

“These youngsters might not join other parties but they will stay away until Umno can mend the current situation and avoid splits in the party,” he said.

In PUTRAJAYA, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said it was a bad time for Dr Mahathir to quit Umno as the party was going through a difficult period.

He said the resignation would not help in efforts to rebuild Umno.

"He is doing more damage than good; whatever it is, the party is still looking for a new direction and we need everyone to remain united and not split," he said.

Syed Hamid expressed fear for the future of Umno because Dr Mahathir had a great influence and a person of his stature could rattle and destroy the party.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said Dr Mahathir's hatred for Abdullah was seemingly stronger than his love for Umno.

He said the former premier should realise that asking others to follow his footsteps would only make it easier for Pakatan Rakyat to take over the Federal Government.

"What he is saying is that if you love Umno, leave Umno -- it does not make sense," he said.

Shahrir also said that Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir should be the first to take up his father's suggestion to quit.

Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said he was surprised at the decision, but added that it was Dr Mahathir's right to do so.

"Every member has the right to join or leave the party," he said.

Asked if Umno would convene an emergency meeting, the former Umno vice-president and Selangor Mentri Besar said that "we will wait and see."

The next Umno Supreme Council meeting is scheduled to be held within two to three weeks.

Urged to reconsider
In IPOH, MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan called on Dr Mahathir to reconsider his decision.

Speaking at a press conference after a Wesak Day celebration at the Malaysian Buddhist Associatino (Perak branch) hall here, Ong said he was saddened by Dr Mahathir's sudden announcement.

Barisan Nasional was currently facing a huge challenge and his decision would not benefit Umno and the coalition, said Ong, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister.

As a former Prime Minister, his words carried weight and would affect all levels of the people including party leaders, he said.

“We do not hope for any more problems and neither should we create more,” he said. “Our country needs stability and not uncertainty. His decision would paint a bad impression for the rakyat (citizenry) and foreign investors,” he added.

Lumut Umno division chief Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir also urged Dr Mahathir to reconsider his decision.

“I feel very sad with Tun's decision to leave the party. It should not have happened in the first place,” he said.

Dr Zambry, who is also Pangkor assemblyman, said Dr Mahathir was a great leader who provided a sense of direction and ideas for the party and country.

The problem involved a former president and the present one, he said, adding that it so happened that the predecessor had appointed the current one.

“So it is a complex issue,” he said, adding that the current leadership must immediately find ways to overcome the problems in the party.

Dr Zambry pointed out that it was not unprecedented for former party presidents to quit Umno, adding that Dr Mahathir was the party's fourth president to leave the party.

The other three were the late Datuk Onn Jaafar, Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Hussein Onn, he added.

In PETALING JAYA, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said Dr Mahathir's decision would not solve the problems faced by the party and would instead give more strength to the Opposition.

"At this time when the party is under stress, all parties including leaders and former leaders must work together to heal Umno so it becomes firm and strong," she said.

In MALACCA, Umno veteran and stalwart Tan Sri Aziz Tapa, 85, said that he was shocked at the news and was at a loss for words.

“How can it be when he (Mahathir) says that he loves Umno? I met him only few days ago in Johor and everything seemed okay. What he is doing is not right,” he said when contacted here on Monday.

Umno supreme council member Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik described the move as an "interesting but tragic development" for Umno.

"It's shocking news to me. If true, then I would say that it is an interesting yet tragic development for the party,” he said.

Reacting to Dr Mahathir's resignation, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said, “This will weaken the party at a time when it is facing its enemies.”

Dr Mahathir joined Umno at its inception in 1946.

He became a Member of Parliament in 1964 when he won the Kota Setar Selatan seat.

He lost the seat in the following general election in 1969.

Following the May 13, 1969, riots Dr Mahathir was sacked from the Umno Supreme Council on July 12 because of the widespread distribution of his letter to first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman criticising Tunku’s manner of handling the country’s administration.

Dr Mahathir rejoined Umno on March 7, 1972 and was appointed Senator in 1973. He relinquished the senatorship post a year later to contest the Kubang Pasu seat in the general elections. He was returned unopposed and was appointed Minister of Education.

In 1975, Dr Mahathir became one of the three vice-presidents of Umno.

Tun Hussein Onn appointed Dr Mahathir Deputy Prime Minister on Sept 15, 1978.

Dr Mahathir was Prime Minister of Malaysia from July 16, 1981, until Oct 31, 2003.

Koh: Time to rejuvenate Gerakan with young blood (time to change)

Koh: Time to rejuvenate Gerakan with young blood (is hard to encourage the young generation to joint us now, unless we willing to change)

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan will focus on bringing in young blood to its leadership in the upcoming party elections and remains unshaken by the resignations of its two senior members. (i always hope this thing can be happen in our johor gerakan)

Acting Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said changes in leadership on different levels were to rejuvenate the party.(But please just not restricted in HQ, Johor also need this happen, please)

He stressed that the party would not adopt any quota system to curb the number of young leaders.(I not think gerakan have this culture anyway)

“This is what we will focus on, and I am confident that Datuk Rhina Bhar and Datuk Lee Kah Choon's resignations will not affect the party's morale,” said Koh. (who care this two politic frog, shame on their politic ethical, this is about personal too bad)

“In fact, in the past two weeks alone we have recruited some 5,000 members. This shows that Gerakan is very much alive,” he told reporters after chairing a central committee meeting in Menara PGRM here yesterday. (we also hope so)

Party vice-president and Wanita national chairman Rhina tendered her resignation on Monday, citing racial bias in the leadership.(this is bullshit)

Lee, formerly party deputy secretary-general, resigned to take up the posts of InvestPenang executive chairman and Penang Development Corporation director under the Pakatan Rakyat government last month.

When pressed for comments on Rhina's resignation, Koh said:“It was very unexpected. That is all I am going to say. The secretary-general has said the rest. We will now just focus on our party elections.” (make sure we have good brighter party future)

Rhina Bhar quits Gerakan after 30 years-ANOTHER POLITIC FROG

Rhina Bhar quits Gerakan after 30 years (why you quit now because no senator for you or no more lobang?)

PENANG: Former Gerakan vice-president and Wanita national chairman Datuk Rhina Bhar has quit the party after 30 years, citing racial bias in the leadership. (If you have been disappointed by party for so long than you should choose to resign much earlier . And why at this moment you commented that the party is marginalized Indian ? why don'tyou claiming party marginalized Human being even better, terrifying comments)

“It is impossible for me to continue working under the present conditions,” she said. (what kind of condition you are talking about ? at losing all our seat seat moment? where is your politician ethical?)

“Gerakan is to be a multiracial party but the leaders have been making many racist remarks. Enough is enough,” she said. (why your enough is at this moment, what your enough is not at the moment when we won almost 90% at last election?)

Rhina, 59, who tendered her resignation on Monday, also hit out at Gerakan adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik for “practising double standards”.

Rhina also expressed her disappointment over Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon’s comments for not fielding any Indian candidates in the last general election. ( than should party give all the seat to you even better right ?)

Both Dr Koh and Dr Lim could not be reached for comments.

The Bukit Bendera Gerakan Wanita chief said she was taking a break from politics to “heal her broken heart.” (than you are trying to break our heart right? you are very disappointing us as well, what the hell of politic concept you have ? leaving party when the party losing 90% of seats?)

“But I am keeping my options open to consider joining other political parties or non-governmental organisations, which can provide me an opportunity to serve the people,” she added.(politic opportunistic) from some of Johor gerakan comments

Lim Guan Eng -is Taiwan Ah Bian? Best actor for Oscar?

Firstly, DAP have a actor culture, LGE have won the seat in Penang, he supposed to work hard and keep quiet in this moment, I think LGE have problem in DAP itself due to his acting character. Penang issue just a standard issue, LGE is trying to make it as a big issue and misleading the penangite that he is working. Initially penangite may have the impression that he is working hard, but subsequently i think penangite will get fed up by all this movie acting, all the movie that LGE acted is boring, do you think that all malaysian is so stupid to just watching movie of DAP? I not think so, serve people still need a basic, work hard and serve the people sincerely instead of work nothing talking a lot. LGE is Taiwan Ah Bian, during LGE is a opposition, he is keep complaint and complaint a lot, however this have be come a habit, and the worst thing is this is become a culture of DAP, exactly like Taiwan Ah Bian right ? I think LGE will self acting and directing another movie like ah bian in Taiwan in the next election, whereby arrange a assassination movie to get the sympathy of Penangite, all this rubbish and bullshit politician should disappear in Our politic Culture.

What we need is a sincere and hard working politician, not a good actor.
Finally Ask Khoo Kay peng to fuck off this politic young bird is talking nonsense, who is this guy never heard of him, just because we lost our seat than he frogging to DAp and start shoooting our gerakan leader, go to hell lah Bodek

Gerakan VP: Guan Eng naive, ignorant or playing politics

Gerakan VP: Guan Eng naive, ignorant or playing politics
Jason ANG comments: Lim Guan Eng more than above he is stupid, bullshit and trying to make movie by his own.

PENANG: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is naive, ignorant or merely playing politics, says Gerakan.

Its vice-president Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan said that Lim seemed to be asking questions through the media for answers which he could easily get from his officers, reports, documents and briefings.

“I am saying he is naive because all the questions he has been asking can be easily obtained because he has access to all the information,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Dr Teng said this showed that Lim was not ready to take on responsibility as a chief minister.

“I do not know whether to call him Chief Minister or just Lim Guan Eng,” he said.

Dr Teng, who is a former state executive councillor, also hit out at Lim for asking him and former chief minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon to apologise to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for misleading the latter on the proposed RM25bil Penang Global City Centre (PGCC) project.

Lim had said that Abdullah was invited to launch the proposed project last year when the Penang local authorities had yet to approve the project.

Dr Teng said he was appalled that Lim had made such baseless statements.

“The Prime Minister was fully aware during the soft launch that the local authorities had yet to approve the planning permit.

“That was why the Prime Minister requested the state government to facilitate the process,” he said, adding that the project was proposed on private land owned by the Penang Turf Club.

Dr Teng also clarified that it was the developer who invited the Prime Minister and state authorities as part of their marketing strategy.

Meanwhile, Lim said he regretted Dr Teng’s personal attack against him.

He said all the state government wanted, when it questioned why the Prime Minister was invited to launch the PGCC project when it had yet to be approved by the local authorities, were answers based on facts.

“Instead of answering the state government’s questions to him, Dr Teng has launched a personal attack against me,” Lim told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from Korean ambassador to Malaysia Bong Ryull Yang.

Lim said he would reply to Dr Teng today.

BN Component Parties 'Like Beggars', Says Keng Yaik

BN Component Parties 'Like Beggars', Says Keng Yaik

Kong See Hoh, The Sun

PETALING JAYA (May 12, 2008): Gerakan adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik has likened MCA, Gerakan and MIC to "beggars" in the Barisan Nasional (BN) as the coalition did not treat its component parties equitably.

Criticising the lack of equitability in BN, Lim stressed that although the constitution guarantees the special rights of the Malays, it also safeguards the rights of non-Malays.

He said he believed that the people, who had indicated in the recent general election their desire for multi-racial parties to work together, would also want the BN to become a multi-racial political set-up which treats all people equitably.

Lim said this in an interview with Sin Chew Daily in which he gave his views on the new political order in the country and the shape of things to come.

The former Gerakan president and former Energy, Water and Communications Minister predicted that Umno-led BN's model of cooperation will be discarded by the people one day.

He also foresaw that the coalition will change the way it operates given another two general elections.

He felt that under such circumstances, race-based parties like Umno, MCA and MIC will have to disband if BN goes multi-racial.

He said over-emphasis on cooperation among race-based parties will not make the people comfortable.

The people not only hope to see BN become a coalition of multi-racial parties but also want BN to play roles that reflect its multi-racial characteristics.

Lim pointed out that 39 years after the May 13, 1969, riots, the people have seen through the domination of a race-based party.

He said the fact that there was no repeat of the (May 13) bloodshed when the Opposition won big this time around showed the maturity of the people.

He said although Gerakan espouses political multi-racialism, it suffered a major setback in the general election mainly because its candidates were fielded in non-Malay-majority constituencies.

"Why were the non-Malays angry with BN? (It's) Because of the arrogance of Umno, the dominant party in BN. Many people also felt uneasy with the racist remarks made by Umno leaders. These had also caused all BN component parties to suffer in the polls."

He believed that if BN takes the multi-racial path, at least Umno leaders would be more careful with what they say in the future.

People like humane decisions on Muslim converts, says Koh

People like humane decisions on Muslim converts, says Koh

PETALING JAYA: The courts should be “humane” when presiding over cases of Muslim converts wanting to renounce Islam and embracing their original faith, Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said.

He said the people would be more respectful to all great religions if such liberal decision were made towards those who sought redress over their faith.

“Such cases seeking their choice of religion are few and as such there should not be any fear with regard to the erosion of the Islamic faith,” he said.

Dr Koh was asked to comment on the Penang Syariah High Court’s decision to allow an application by Muslim convert Siti Fatimah Tan Abdullah, 39, to renounce Islam and revert to her original faith.

The decision by Perlis Syariah Court chief judge Othman Ibrahim, who presided over the case when he was based in Penang earlier, makes this the first of its kind in the country where a living Muslim convert is allowed to renounce Islam since the Syariah Court Civil Procedure (State of Penang) Enactment 2004 came into force on Jan 1, 2006.

MCA Legal Bureau chairman Datuk Leong Tang Chong said it was the party’s position that a Muslim convert be allowed to renounce Islam when the marriage to a Muslim had ended.

“We also urge that other converts in similar circumstances be allowed to come out of Islam,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

He said the decision was in line with Article 11(1) of the Federal Constitution which guaranteed freedom of religion to every Malaysian.

Regarding children who had been unilaterally converted to Islam without the other parent’s knowledge and permission, he said the MCA stressed that their religion must be decided by both parents.

“In such a case where the child’s religion remains in dispute, his or her faith must remain as status quo until he or she reaches 18 years old, after which the child will decide,” he said.

Malasyia raise the retirement age to 58, a good step ?

I think the retired age should even raise to 65 , today medical technology is very much better than the past, in past average human age is around 65, chinese believed human is rarely reach 60. However Malaysia human life have extent to average 73 and 72 now, if the particular person retired at 55, and stay at home, this is really a wastage of their experience and know how. In singapore this issue have brought out must earlier. We can't deny that Singapore government is must sensitive to global environment comparing with Malaysia. however malaysia have taking a good step to looking at this issue, this is a good progress.

As for myself , retire never happen in my life dictionary, i not think i will retired, because working still is kind of enjoyment.

Former Penang State Exco Member in charge of Local Government

THE PROPOSED PGCC PROJECT:

PREVIOUS STATE GOVERNMENT DID NOT APPROVE AS YET

PRESENT GOVERNMENT CAN DECIDE AND IMPOSE LEVIES

It must be emphasised that the application for planning permission by the developer of the proposed Penang Global City Centre (PGCC) project has not yet been approved by the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) under the previous state government as of 8 March 2008.

The previous state government has also not made any decision as yet on whether and how much premiums or charges were to be levied on the developer relating to the proposed PGCC project.

The formulation of the structure plan, which made provisions on zoning of development for the whole state, followed the proper provisions and procedure for structure plan under the Town and Country Planning Act. Public exhibitions and hearings were held in 2006 - 2007 on the draft structure plan which was finalised and gazetted in June 2007.

In this respect, the structure plan did not specify the type (residential or commercial or "mixed") and the scale (density, plot ratio, etc) of "new development" zoned on that site.

The MPPP can still decide whether to reject or approve any development proposal, including the type and the scale. It is also up to the State Planning Committee chaired by the Chief Minister to provide guidance.

Therefore, since no decision has been made as yet, it is up to the new state government and the MPPP to make whatever decision that they think suitable with respect to the site and any development proposal, including whatever charges to be imposed.

Chris Huong | 5

Raja Petra claims trial for sedition (update 4)

Raja Petra claims trial for sedition (update 4)

KUALA LUMPUR: Raja Petra Kamaruddin, the editor of news portal Malaysia Today, claimed trial at the PJ Sessions Court to publishing a seditious article on April 25.

He was charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.

Nine paragraphs in his article titled "Let’s send the Altantuya murderers to hell" were found to be seditious.

The article was posted on his website on April 25.

The court set his bail at RM5,000.

Raja Petra did not post bail. His wife Marina Lee Abdullah said he is hoping to raise the money through his news portal.

As of 2.30pm Tuesday, he was still in lockup at the PJ sessions court.

Earlier Tuesday, Raja Petra arrived at the magistrates’ court in the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex in Jalan Duta at 9.06am.

He was later instructed to go to the PJ Sessions Court to be charged.

A crowd of about a hundred people were gathered at the Jalan Duta court. Among them were bloggers and Opposition MPs including Salahuddin Ayub (Kubang Kerian), Datuk Kamarul Baharin Abbas (Teluk Kemang) and Nurul Izzah Anwar (Lembah Pantai).

At 2pm Tuesday, businessman Syed Akbar Ali was also charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948 at a sessions court here for posting a comment on Raja Petra's site on June 5, 2007.

The ex-banker, aged 48, posted the RM3,000 bail set by the court.

Hearing for the submissions whether the charge was groundless is set for June 10.

Tony Pua (DAP) VS Jason ANG (Gerakan) on the Blog

Tony Pua Said

Hi Jason,

I generally don't respond much to comments but i'll make this an exception.

Without a vibrant political organisation, with a large and strong base, it is quite impossible to serve the rakyat both in the short and more so in the long term.

Hence it is critical that I help grow DAP or our ideals, as voted by the rakyat, will just fades over time without the necessary renewal. A healthy political system requires strong political parties (from both sides of the fence), without which democracy will not work, and the people's interest not served.

I also noted that your comments have generally been negative - not that there's anything wrong with that, but taking somethings in the positive and lighthearted spirit might offer less stress on the blood press :-)

Jason ANG Said

Hi Tony, I also Back from Singapore, the only think that make us different is that U joint DAP and I joint Gerakan. U have mentioned that i always comment negative point, but do you know that this is the feeling that DAP leader always accusing our Gerakan leader in negative point ? I hope u can pass my message to you team leader (Lim Guan Eng), do not always complaint people, try to valuating own self first before commenting. This not a matter whether who is the government , the most important is as a politician your first priority is people in Malaysia, not yourself, there is why i not really active in politic, i am IT, i think you know that, ur good friend jeff Ooi are using the blog to shotting our gerakan for how many time? ask him? Gerakan also have IT people OK ? i cannot tahan than i stand up, as jeff Ooi mentioned he want to have IT media political war, i ready for it , u pass this message to him. If he do not perform well as YB i will dig more thing about him and disclose in IT media OK, remember i just a ordinary member of Gerakan, we serve without publicity.

EX-COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF PERTUBUHAN BUNGA TANJUNG PULAU PINANG (PBT) CHALLENGE
YAB MR LIM GUAN ENG, THE CHIEF MINISTER OF PENANG AND

YB MR JEFF OOI, THE CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE CHIEF MINISTER'S OFFICE

TO AN OPEN PUBLIC DEBATE

We regret the recent statements by YAB Mr Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang, insinuating the failure of PBT in disbursing the funds of PBT appropriately, to take care of the welfare of the Penang people.

We also resent the insinuation by YB Mr Jeff Ooi, the Chief of Staff of the Chief Minister's Office, that PBT lied about giving donation to Mount Miriam Hospital in one of a series of postings entitled "Desperate Housewives" on his own blog yesterday.

We are confident we were correct in the way we managed our association and managed our funds, in accordance with proper procedure.

However, we strongly feel that any further statements in the media will not be satisfactory to both of them. We also strongly feel that they are openly questioning our integrity and dignity in handling the funds and affairs of PBT.

We are prepared to tell all to defend our integrity and dignity publicly.

Therefore, we are inviting both of them to an open public debate on the handling of the PBT funds and the manner in which PBT was dissolved.

We hope they will be gentleman enough to accept this invitation. We are giving them 48 hours to respond. Their acceptance will show their sincerity to know the truth and dispel doubts that they attempt to make speculations and insinuations against us.

The venue, date and format of the proposed debate can be discussed between the respective representatives, once YAB Mr Lim Guan Eng and YB Mr Jeff Ooi accept our challenge.

We also have in mind several women leaders, one of whom can be invited to chair the open debate. We will make available their names, upon the acceptance of our challenge by Lim and Ooi.

A formal letter to invite both the leaders to the debate will be faxed to the Chief Minister's Office tomorrow morning (2 May 2008).

Penang gov't gets more flak over appointments

Penang gov't gets more flak over appointments

The Penang government’s appointment of 36 councillors has been criticised by 55 civil society groups, who described the candidates as “politically-partisan” people without a strong track-record as community leaders.

The Coalition for Good Governance (CGG) - whose secretariat is helmed by human rights group Suaram - told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today that the April 16 appointments were “undemocratic, lack public consultations and were non-transparent”.

“Among the small contingent of seven non-partisan representatives, the over-representation of five members of commercial interests and two members of vis-a-vis non-commercial non-governmental organisations is completely unacceptable,” said Suaram executive director Yap Swee Seng, reading from a joint statement.

“There’s also no clear policy on how they made the appointments and decisions. We urge the state governments of Selangor, Perak and Kedah not to follow the example of Penang.”

The Pakatan Rakyat state government has been harping on its intention to ensure competence, accountability and transparency in its administration ever since it took over Penang after the 12th general election.

In the days following their electoral victory, DAP parliamentarians in Kuala Lumpur had pledged their commitment to bringing back local council elections, which had been suspended in 1964.

The Penang government’s decision had earlier come under fire from NGOs in the state.

Yap pointed out that the Penang appointments did not meet “the principles, criteria and processes of political appointment”, as set out in the CGG’s memorandum of March 28.

The guidelines were drawn up as an interim measure pending the promised revival of local council elections - a key plank of the opposition campaign during the elections.
